Communications Assistant

About the role

Project HOPE, an international NGO providing humanitarian assistance to the conflict-affected population in Gaza, is hiring a Communications Assistant in its Gaza programme. The role supports communication and visibility activities within the Health, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, Protection and WASH portfolio, reporting to the Communications Officer. It is a local hire and involves working in a rapidly changing, resource-deprived environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support content development: success stories, human-interest stories, social media posts and program updates, and draft initial versions for review.
• Assist in interviewing program staff and beneficiaries, and maintain photo libraries, consent forms and communication archives.
• Help coordinate media visits, interviews and field missions, prepare briefing materials and track media coverage.
• Prepare and display visibility materials such as banners, branding materials and donor acknowledgements at program sites.
• Draft and schedule social media content, monitor online engagement and compile basic analytics reports.
• Gather and compile information during emergencies, and help prepare situation updates and communication briefs.
• Coordinate with program teams on photos and testimonials, and maintain content calendars, trackers and reporting logs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, media studies, public relations, marketing or a related field.
• 0-1 years of relevant experience; experience in the humanitarian or NGO sector is an advantage.
• Strong writing and editing skills in Arabic; good working proficiency in English required.
• Ability to travel and work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with austere living conditions.

Required skills

• Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content management tools.
• Basic photography and/or videography skills are an asset.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
