Controller – Hands‑On Senior Accounting Role

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Controller to act as the senior accounting professional for a privately held single‑family office with diverse operating and investment interests. You will join a small, collegial team and be responsible for both high‑level financial reporting and day‑to‑day bookkeeping.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for multiple entities, including ranch operations, real estate holdings, family limited partnerships and an aviation company.
• Own the full month‑end and year‑end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations and intercompany eliminations.
• Post and review daily transactions—payables, receivables, payroll and bank activity—across all entities.
• Manage cash‑flow monitoring and bank reconciliations for numerous operating and investment accounts.
• Maintain real‑estate accounting records, depreciation schedules, mortgage tracking and rental income allocations.
• Supervise and mentor one bookkeeper, providing guidance and reviewing work product.
• Serve as primary accounting liaison with external CPA, legal counsel and financial advisors.
• Coordinate with tax preparers on K‑1 packages, partnership returns and entity‑level filings, and improve internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience with full P&L responsibility.
• Experience in family‑office, real‑estate or multi‑entity environments; CPA license preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to perform hands‑on bookkeeping while supervising staff.
• Strong organizational skills and a commitment to confidentiality.

• QuickBooks (preferred accounting system).
