Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Coordinator (Local Hire)

About the role

Project HOPE, an international NGO, is recruiting a Mental Health Coordinator (local hire) to lead and coordinate mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) activities under a funded healthcare project in Gaza. The role provides technical leadership, oversees service delivery and strengthens local capacity for mental health care in a complex humanitarian context. The position is advertised contingent on award: recruitment proceeds as part of organizational preparedness but no formal offer is made until funding is confirmed.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning, implementation and supervision of mental health activities in Gaza, develop workplans, activity schedules and staffing plans, and set up screening, case management, referral pathways and follow-up systems.
• Provide technical leadership on community-based services, clinical care and referral systems, and coordinate with local health authorities, MHPSS working groups and partners.
• Oversee services for compliance with Project HOPE guidelines, donor requirements and national policies, and ensure accurate, timely reporting to leadership, headquarters and donors.
• Maintain beneficiary records and clinical documentation, lead assessments, monitoring visits and quality improvement, and support donor monitoring visits and evaluations.
• Build capacity of mental health staff through training, mentoring and supportive supervision, and manage their performance and recruitment.
• Support MEAL procedures, budget management and financial monitoring, and give technical guidance to Logistics and Procurement.
• Help Gaza leadership apply a risk management approach, identify clinical, ethical and operational risks, and integrate safeguarding and protection into services.

Required profile

• Psychologist, clinical social worker or psychiatrist with experience in MHPSS program coordination.
• Master's degree or high diploma in mental health.
• 7-10 years of professional experience in MHPSS, including at least 2 years in MHPSS project management in humanitarian settings.
• Experience with donor-funded projects, training national staff, and managing mental health teams.
• Fluency in English and Arabic.

• Knowledge of MHPSS programming aligned with IASC Guidelines and integration into primary health care.
• Expertise in assessing, designing and delivering responses to pre-existing and emergency-induced MHPSS needs.
• Analytical, reporting and coordination skills, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
