Security Operations Officer

About the role

The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) provides leadership, operational support and oversight of the UN Security Management System globally. This Security Operations Officer position is based in East Jerusalem, within the UNDSS Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territory office, and reports to the Principal Security Adviser through the Chief of the Security Information and Operations Center. It is a full-time position in a "B" hardship and family duty station.

Key responsibilities

• Provide substantive input on forecasting the security environment and the UN's security and operational responses, and support planning with trend analysis.
• Support risk management strategies by detecting early signals and emerging threats, and prepare, review and implement security planning and risk management documents.
• Write analysis of security trends and incident reports, and take part in meetings, committees and task forces, preparing papers and giving briefings.
• Manage security-related projects, monitor preparedness and compliance, and share information with agencies, funds and programmes.
• Develop and deliver security training and advice, and advise staff on local security risks such as kidnapping and armed attacks.
• Carry out security surveys and recommend effective security measures, and support contingency planning, evacuation plans and the maintenance of evacuation routes and resources.
• Maintain the Security Communication System and lead after-action reviews of security incidents and accidents.
• Implement gender mainstreaming and diversity and inclusion in security work.
