Area Education Officer – Fixed Term (Internal Candidates)

About the role

The Area Education Officer will lead the delivery of quality basic education services to Palestine refugee students in the Jerusalem area. Reporting to the Chief Field Education Programme on technical matters and to the Chief of the Area Office on operational issues, the incumbent will supervise a large team of education professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure high‑quality education services and improve overall school academic achievement.
• Provide technical supervision and guidance to School Principals and Deputy School Principals.
• Manage performance, set goals, give feedback, and identify training needs for school leaders.
• Develop and maintain a safe, respectful learning environment for teachers, students, and parents.
• Build positive relationships with community leaders, NGOs, government institutions, and other stakeholders.
• Oversee coordination of remedial teaching, psycho‑social counseling, medical referrals, and special‑needs support for under‑performing or misbehaving students.

Required profile

• Internal UNRWA candidate.
• Experience in supervising professional and support staff within an education context.
• Ability to provide leadership and management guidance on programmatic and operational matters.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with community leaders, NGOs, and government bodies.
