School Principal - Fixed Term (Internal Candidates Only)

About the role

UNRWA is recruiting three School Principals for a fixed-term appointment of 1 year (including a 1-year probation period, with possible extension depending on funds, performance and need) in the Nablus area office. The post reports to the Area Education Officer and directly supervises professional and general services posts. It is open only to internal candidates residing in the West Bank or Jerusalem within commuting distance of the duty station and holding a valid work permit.

Key responsibilities

• Lead professional development for school staff: evaluate training needs, support school-based development and peer support, facilitate external training and manage staff performance.
• Deliver quality inclusive education services to all students in line with UNRWA policies.
• Engage parents and the wider community through effective communication mechanisms.
• Manage installation, including pupil registration, records, EMIS data entry, budgeting, financial management and resource use.
• Maintain an inclusive, safe and secure learning environment.
• Ensure school ethos, monitoring and evaluation, and formative and summative assessment of pupils.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• University degree in a school-related subject plus at least one year of professional teacher training, or a degree plus a higher diploma or advanced degree in education.
• At least seven years of satisfactory teaching experience.
• English and Arabic at UN Level II reading, writing and listening, and Level III speaking.
• Desirable: advanced degree in a related subject and professional training.

Required skills

• Proficiency in standard PC applications used by the Agency.
• Knowledge of UN values and UNRWA education rules, policies and practices.
• Core competencies: leading and supervising, coping with pressure and setbacks, learning and researching, relating and networking, following instructions and procedures.

What we offer

• Grade 15, basic salary of USD 1,592.60 per month, payable in Jordanian dinars at the UN exchange rate.
• Monthly provident fund contribution (15.4%), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days annual leave, and dependency allowance if applicable.
• Additional benefits: 2 days sick leave per month, 14 weeks maternity leave and 2 weeks paternity leave.
