Senior Project Manager (Palestine)
avaaz
Job description
About the role
Avaaz is looking for a Senior Project Manager to own operations execution and project management for its Palestine sub-team, working in coordination with Avaaz. This is a senior, hands-on delivery role: keeping workstreams on track, building the systems and reporting that give leadership visibility, and ensuring risk and security protocols are followed. The role coordinates and holds accountability across project owners rather than managing a team of direct reports, and reports to the Thiqa project lead.
The team works remotely most of the time, but it is strongly preferred that the candidate lives in the West Bank or has a deep understanding of Palestine and has worked there.
Key responsibilities
- Serve as the central coordination point for the team, making sure deadlines, deliverables and priorities are clear and met across all project streams.
- Track progress across concurrent projects and keep a single source of truth for status, owners and next steps.
- Prepare and lead key project meetings, follow up with each owner, and share weekly dashboards on status, blockers, risks and next steps.
- Support and coordinate project owners, step in directly only when needed, and ensure security protocols are followed.
- Coordinate cross-team collaboration, including with partners and Avaaz departments, and support donor cultivation and fundraising.
- Track operational KPIs such as throughput and survey progress, and use data to flag risks early and inform prioritisation and resourcing.
- Design lightweight SOPs, analyse workflows to cut cycle times and costs, and select practical tools for project tracking.
- Support the delivery of team events in a high-security context, anticipate risk and build contingency plans.
Required profile
- At least five years of experience in project management and operations delivery, ideally in a fast-paced, mission-driven or international organisation.
- Proven track record of keeping complex, multi-stream projects on time, with the judgement to prioritise under pressure.
- Comfortable holding others accountable without formal authority over them.
- Strong on contingency planning and rapid re-planning in a high-stakes, unpredictable environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Arabic.
- Fluent in project-tracking and collaboration tools; experience with Asana, Slack and Google Suite is a plus but not required.
