Senior Staff Nurse (Fixed Term) – Health Programme – Area Office Jerusalem

About the role

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is seeking two Senior Staff Nurses on a fixed‑term basis to lead nursing services at its health centre in the Area Office Jerusalem. The role reports to the Hospital Matron or Hospital Director and provides technical supervision to nursing and non‑paramedical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the principal nursing officer, supervising staff nurses, practical nurses, midwives, clerks and cleaners, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
• Ensure smooth operation of the electronic medical record (EMR) system, including staff training, equipment maintenance, data backup and accurate record‑keeping.
• Oversee data collection, analysis and reporting of nursing activities, manage home‑visit follow‑ups and monitor defaulter patients.
• Manage health‑centre inventories such as vaccines, family‑planning supplies, medical equipment and cleaning materials, guaranteeing continuous availability.
• Lead cross‑cutting initiatives (e.g., gender‑based violence, disability) within the Family Health Team Approach.
• Provide direct nursing and midwifery care when needed, including periodic IUD insertion and post‑insertion checks.
• Deliver on‑the‑job training, support infection‑control standards, triage services and medical waste management.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with extensive clinical experience in primary health‑care settings.
• Proven supervisory experience managing multidisciplinary nursing teams.
• Strong knowledge of UNRWA technical instructions and health‑programme policies.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and maintain high standards of patient safety.
