Assistant Human Rights Officer – Gaza (2 positions)

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is seeking two Assistant Human Rights Officers to support its Protection Cluster in the Gaza Sub‑Office. Reporting to the Protection Cluster Coordinator, the incumbents will contribute to the coordination, monitoring and reporting of human‑rights and protection issues in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate daily meetings and activities of the Protection Cluster and its working groups, ensuring effective collaboration among members.
• Collect and analyse information on protection and human‑rights matters, including gender dimensions, from diverse sources such as communications, publications and media.
• Draft reports, correspondence, speeches and presentations on protection topics for senior OHCHR officials.
• Participate in protection monitoring missions and prepare concise summaries of findings.
• Support the design and delivery of training programmes for humanitarian actors, NGOs and civil‑society organisations.
• Assist in reviews of protection issues, contribute to discussions on integrating gender perspectives into humanitarian programmes.
• Facilitate community mobilisation efforts that promote the exercise of rights.
• Liaise with government bodies, national human‑rights institutions, NGOs, UN agencies and other partners to gather baseline data on the human‑rights situation, with special focus on vulnerable groups.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of human‑rights principles, protection frameworks and their political, ethnic, racial, gender and socio‑economic dimensions.
• Familiarity with the mandates of international human‑rights organisations and relevant UN policies.
• Excellent research, analytical and report‑writing abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in a complex humanitarian environment.
