Communications Officer - Gaza

About the role

Project HOPE, an international NGO providing humanitarian assistance in Gaza, is hiring a Communications Officer (local hire) within its Global Health division. The officer raises awareness of Project HOPE's activities in Gaza through media relations and the creation of stories, interviews and other content, and acts as the field lead with the support of the Global Communications department. The position is advertised contingent on award, with no formal offer until funding is confirmed.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a communication strategy with regional and headquarters focal points to advance advocacy and awareness of programming in Gaza, and advise country office leadership on external and internal positioning.
• Identify success stories and news angles, conduct interviews with staff and participants, and draft press releases, statements, fact sheets and briefing notes.
• Act as the on-the-ground point of contact for media inquiries, prepare and brief staff for interviews, and occasionally act as an on-camera spokesperson.
• Build relationships with local, regional and international media contacts and coordinate with HQ media teams.
• Develop emergency communication, social mobilization and advocacy plans for program disruptions and ensure accurate information sharing during crises.
• Guide country office staff on visibility, branding and messaging, and coordinate with program teams so communications reflect program impact.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations or a related area.
• At least three years in a similar role delivering communications services; experience with communications strategy at other NGOs is desirable.
• Fluency in English and Arabic.
• Strong commitment to humanitarian principles and flexibility in a changing work environment.

Required skills

• Development and implementation of communication and media products, including solid writing skills.
• Strong knowledge of social media use and tools.
• Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
