CTO & Co-Founder – AI Clinical Simulation Startup

About the role

We are building AI‑powered clinical simulation tools that let medical students practice patient interviews at scale. As CTO and Co‑Founder you will own the two core systems – the simulated patient and the assessment engine – and shape the technical vision of the product from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Design and ship the simulated patient system, including a hidden clinical history, dynamic disclosure logic, adversarial robustness, and difficulty calibration.
• Build the assessment engine that converts free‑form conversation transcripts into itemised scores and actionable feedback against a standardised checklist.
• Define and implement the retrieval architecture for case libraries (vector store selection, embedding models, chunking, reranking).
• Create an evaluation harness to test prompts, models, and retrieval pipelines on evidence‑based metrics.
• Develop the backend from scratch (FastAPI service, data models, streaming, queues, background processing).
• Own cost, latency, safety and scope constraints, ensuring no real clinical advice is given and no real patient data is processed.
• Manage the operational surface – deployment, CI/CD, observability, backups, and secrets management.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading technical strategy for AI‑driven products.
• Comfortable making architecture decisions, hiring engineers, and setting product boundaries.
• Track record of building and operating backend services at scale.
• Ability to work autonomously in a very early‑stage startup environment.
