Maintenance Technician I – Building & Grounds

About the role

The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for routine repairs and preventive maintenance of building systems, grounds, and equipment. This hands‑on role supports the Facilities Department by ensuring all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks are performed safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine building maintenance, including minor plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry repairs.
• Replace and repair lighting fixtures, fluorescent tubes, spotlights, and exit signs.
• Inspect, test, adjust, and repair heating, cooling, piping, and electrical systems, recording work according to schedule.
• Troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical issues on vehicles, dishwashers, laundry machines, and vent fans.
• Repair walls, floors, ceilings, cabinets, and furniture; paint and finish as needed.
• Maintain inventory of supplies, parts, and equipment for the Facilities Department.
• Assist with construction‑related tasks such as welding, brazing, and soldering under supervision.
• Supervise scheduled contract services (pest control, copy machines, telephone, street lighting, utilities).
• Monitor building security, respond to after‑hours emergency calls, and perform occasional custodial duties.

Required profile

• Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance practices.
• Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions for trades involved.
• Ability to learn on the job and follow written instructions.
• Capability to perform routine repairs safely and maintain equipment.

• Plumbing repair (leaking faucets, clogged toilets, sprinkler systems)
